The Rev. ROY STROCK, M.A. D.D.,
President, The A.E.L.C., Guntur.
An humble representation of K.
VIJAYARATNAM, Sharon House, Near Sanitorium,
RAJAHMUNDRY.
Most Respected Sir,
I Shall be greatly grateful if you kindly allow
me to send you the following few lines for your
patient perusal and just consideration.
I beg to mention that I underwent Bible training at Luthergiri under my spiritual father Dr. E.
Neudoerffer in 1931 and learned many helpful
things and am thankful to him and Mrs. Neudoerffer,
who treated me as their son. I opened a School at
Venkatapuram (near Sanitorium) and did some
work. Afterwards I worked as an evangelist in
Korukonda field. I put up with Father M. Devadas
during that time and attended his prayer meetings
the members of which were from our town congregation. One day we all asked him why he never
mentioned the Baptism of the Holy Spirit in his
teaching. He replied that he did not teach it because it is not found in our Lutheran doctrine. We
questioned him whether it is in the Bible. "Yes, he
said", We then requested him to explain it fully. He
did so. We put it in practice and found it very useful. Miss. Blair asked Father Devadas to discontinue the meetings. He did so at once. After I learned
these it so happened that I had to become an independent evangelist and preached the plan of salvation to Non-Christians and conducted revival
meetings to Christians who invited me.
- My subjects are:
- 1. An Explanation of the Ten Commandments.
- 2. Full surrender.
- 3. Prayer life.
- 4. Bible study.
- 5. The plan of salvation.
- 6. The Baptism of the Holy ghost. The gift of tongues and Visionary life.
- 7. The Divine healing.
- 8. the nearness of our Lord’s coming.
- 9. Outlines of the Book of Revelation.
When I prayed for the sick, our Lord healed many. He cast out devils. Some repented and asked for Baptism. I visited Cocanada and Narsapur also where Baptist Mission is. I always had successful meetings wherever I went. Praise the Lord. Dr. Neudoerffer taught us in his Class:- “Fear no man, find God’s Will. Do what ever He tells you to do” I am following his teaching. When I had religious meetings devil also entered- Where God builds His temple there the devil also builds his. But I was the conqueror. I did everything in His Name for His Glory. Oppositions came from all sides, but I stood for the truth. I heartily thank you missionaries who showed us the way of Salvation and request you to introduce the following into our mission, so that all may be benefited by them. I make this request as I am loyal to the Church to whom I owe much.
- 1. The Baptism of the Holy Ghost Acts. 2:39 says that the promise is meant for all.
- 2. The gift of Speaking in tongues St. Paul wishes that all should speak in tongues, hence it is meant for all. (1Cor. 14:5). If God gives this gift to anyone in these days, no one should stop it (1 Cor. 14:39). We never taught the people that this gift brings salvation. One may think that this gift is not necessary to have as it is mentioned only in two chapters of the Bible (the Church rule that women are not allowed to speak in the Church is also mentioned only twice! To obey it, even the best inspired women are not allowed today to speak in Sunday service). The reason, that the gift of speaking in Tongues is mentioned last in the list of gifts is that it was given to believers last in order of gifts is that it was given to believers last in order historically. This gift is not more important that the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. Be filled with the spirit first and then you can get one of the gifts of the spirit. You can do us successful service in the Church if you are not endowed with any of his gifts. “And these signs shall follow them that believe” It is not written that these signs will destroy them. If you are a believer, you will be given a gift even if you do not pray for it even if you do not like to have it surely you will get one to complete your faith. How fine it would be if the students in theological seminary first receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and then enter into the service.
- 3. The Visionary life : Visionary life was also promised when the Baptism of the Holy Ghost was promised (Joel. 2:28).
- 4. The Divine healing : God is certainly doing miraculous work through our mission hospitals. No one can deny this, I wish that some of our Bible students should get up and help the sick with out medical aid, following Apostles method. I found that this is also very practical. We first preach the plan of salvation and then explain the healing power of our Lord that the sick people may get faith and pray for them Many are being healed immediately.
- 5. The gift of casting out devils. The gift of healing and the gift of casting out the devils were first given to twelve disciples. Later on to seventy and lastly to all believers (Math. 10:1-18). (Luke 10:1-9; Mark 16:17-18). I have practised these two gifts. True, We are not among the twelve nor among the seventy; but we are indeed among the believers. We have every authority to use these gifts (Math. 10:1).
- 6. The nearness of our Lord’s Coming. The return of the Jews to Palestine is one of the last signs of His Second Coming. So let us look for His Advent although we do not know the exact time of His appearance in the air.
- 7. Waiting upon God. It is very impolite to leave God’s presence, right after our request is made, without waiting to; His reply. Pilate asked our Lord! What is truth? He went out, waiting for His answer. We should not do as Pilate did.
In last December we had our Convention at Rajahmundry to hear the experience of our members in the above things. In October we requested our A.E.L.C. to call for us for an explanation of our movement; but have received no endorsement. In the beginning some of our members went to extremes and misused their gifts. So we the leaders jumped into various meetings to regulate them. We prefer standing before our former A.E.L.C. Meeting or Ministerium to give out our vivid interpretation of these seven topics, to appearing before Committee meetings.
I humbly request you and others to consider these seven subjects prayerfully (“Whatever the saith unto you do it.” John. 2:5). I also beseech he to let our Board of Foreign Missions know of my request; after you ministers have spent enough time in His presence.
2nd September 1937,
Rajahmundry. I remain,
Most respected Sir,
Your most obediently,
K. VIJAYARATNAM
Independent Preacher.
